AsiaFI Forum
8 August 2011, Seoul
Type of participation
FIRE was represented in the AsiaFI Forum Summer School which was held in Daejeon, Korea, from 8 to 12 August 2011. A broad range of Future Internet-related sessions and workshops were held. Test beds and experimental facilities were mentioned several times as key elements for Future Internet developments and more particularly new FI architectures. FIRE, along with GENI, was explicitly mentioned each and every time. The members of AsiaFI Forum are pressing for more cooperation in the FI domain including test beds between China, Japan and Korea, and also for international collaboration. A Korean institute is involved in the new FIRE Network of Excellence, but international collaboration is still limited. There might be some interest in the open calls (especially from OpenLab) and also in the next FIRE Call 8. The programme of the AsiaFI Forum Summer School 2011 with all presentations is available at

Reason for participating/Objective of participation
Gather information on FIRE-related initiatives and projects in Asia (Korea, Japan, China…); promote FIRE visibility in Asia and see what future joint actions could be set up; establish some contacts with Korean organisations with whom to interact.
