FIRE presentations & recorded session videos at Future Internet week in Poznan 25-27 October, 2011
Category: NewsThe second Future Internet week in 2011 was held in Poznan, Poland during the Polish presidency in the second half of 2011. FIRE was present and well visible on four events/sessions:
- FIRE conference
- FIRE Call 8 Infoday
- FIRE at FIA international testbeds session
- Joint ServiceWave, FIA and FIRE Demonstration evening (picture)
FIRE Conference
The FIRE conference programme included:
- opening by Per Blixt (Head of the FIRE Unit)
- presentations from the new FIRE facility projects (Confine, Experimedia, OpenLab) that were accepted for funding as a result of Call 7
- FIRE Open Calls (status from the 1st Open Call and opportunities in the 2nd Open Call)
- capacity building activities of the FI-PPP and their relation to FIRE
- the role of formalised testing approaches for testbeds (Measurement & Benchmarking)
- the role of testbeds for research exploitation in standardisation

FIRE Call 8 Infoday
European Commission (EC) organized a FIRE Call 8, Objective ICT-2011.1.6 Call 8 of FP7-ICT information day including presentations:
- the FIRE Call 8 overview and the expectation of the programme by EC
- support to proposers for FIRE Call 8 by Ideal-IST
- agregated overview of FIRE facility and FIRE research project by FIRESTATION
- project ideas and presentations for FIRE Call 8 by registered speakers
The indicative budget in Call 8 of the Objective 1.6 will be as follows:
- IP/STREP: EUR 23 million of which EUR 8 million for IP and EUR 15 million for STREP
- CSA: EUR 2 million
Deadline to apply for funding will be January 17, 2012.
Taking into account the great success of Open Calls it is recommended that for future Calls (e.g. Call 8), IP/Facility projects should also reserve budget for their Open Calls.

FIRE at FIA
FIRE STATION co-organised one of the FIA parallel sessions entitled: ”International collaboration on testbeds”.
The focus of the session was on international collaboration activities on testbeds with regions outside Europe, in particular the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and South America, with a special focus on Brazil, as well as Korea, Australia and Canada. The session briefly reviewed the already well-established relationships with US and Japan.

The joint ServiceWave, FIA and FIRE Demonstration evening
The joint ServiceWave, FIA and FIRE Demonstration evening 2011 continued it’s success of the popular evening event organized on previous years. This year FIRE was well presented (6 of the 14) high-quality, excellent demonstrations from TEFIS, OFELIA, OpenLab, CREW, N4C and FIRE STATION (infokiosk). Whole evening was really crowded and the best ever Demo evening so far happened. Thanks of the successful event belongs to all projects involved and to organizers taking care of relaxing environment.
