This Newsletter informs about upcoming events, in particular the next Open Calls from BonFIRE

The important dates for FIRE at FIA-Aalborg are 9 May (pre-FIA Workshops) and 10 May (FIRE project demonstrations, under the slogan “Hands on FIRE!”), as well as 11 May with FIRE participating in the “Smart City Infrastructure” session. The demonstrations are designed to be a showcase of what FIRE can offer to the FI-PPP programme, researchers and industry (including SMEs) as timely input to the ongoing definition of Horizon 2020.
Other relevant upcoming events include the ICT Call 9 (closing on 17 April), TridentCom (11-13 June, Thessaloniki), the Future Network & Mobile Summit (FuNeMS, 4-6 July, Berlin) and workshops, such as the NOVI Midterm Workshop (15-16 March, Barcelona), etc. that we have been made aware of by other FIRE projects. This Newsletter also contains some statistics from the recent CREW and SmartSantander Open Calls, and information from recent events, such as the symposium on New Generation Networks and Future Internet (19 January, Tokyo), at which the details of a coordinated EU-Japan Call were discussed, the EuroCities workshop (25 January) and the FIRE Architecture Board meeting (26 January), both of which took place in Brussels.

6th Newsletter
We welcome and congratulate the new organisations which have joined FIRE through the Open Call process. We look forward to seeing you in future FIRE events. This Newsletter includes a summary of the successful Open Call experiments. Future Newsletters will inform about the progress and results.
We encourage the organisations which were unsuccessful in the Open Call process to contact the IP projects again and investigate using their facilities without funding.
This Newsletter also informs about recent material that has become available, such as the latest portfolio of FIRE projects, the 1st version of the FIRE Roadmap and the new FIRE brochure. Links are also given to videos and presentations from the FI week in Poznan.
It is also mentioned that two new international Coordinated Calls will be published next year, specifically for EU-Brazil and EU-Japan.
Three new IP projects from Call 7 started in Autumn 2011: CONFINE, EXPERIMEDIA and OpenLab. In addition, CREW (additional testbed) and BonFIRE (new Use Case) will extend their facilities through the same Call.
Preliminary information is given about relevant events taking place in 2012: Smart Cities & the Future Internet organised by Fireball & Eurocities & FIRE, 25 January 2012 in Brussels; the next FI week including the Hands-on FIRE! demonstration event, 7-11 May in Aalborg; TridentCom, 11-13 June 2012 in Thessaloniki; and the Future Networks & Mobile Summit 2012, 4-6 July in Berlin.

5th Newsletter
This 5th Newsletter provides information about the 2nd FIRE Open Call Information Day in Brussels on 14 September, regarding the opportunities for obtaining funding for innovative experiments on FIRE facility projects.
It contains a preview of FIRE’s involvement in the Future Internet week in Poznan (24-28 October), especially the FIRE Event on 26-27 October. The preliminary programme includes presentations from the new FIRE facility projects from Call 7, information about FIRE-related activities in the FI-PPP, sessions on Measurement & Benchmarking and Standardisation, the upcoming FIRE Call 8 and the latest news regarding the results of the 1st Open Call and topics of interest for the 2nd Open Call. Six FIRE projects (TEFIS, OFELIA, OpenLab, CREW, N4C and FIRE STATION) will have exhibition stands in Poznan as part of the co-located ServiceWave Event.
FIRE will be visible in the FIA programme, through a session in the afternoon of Tuesday 25 October, led by FIRE STATION, entitled: “International collaboration on testbeds“.
News from international FIRE activities includes the strengthening of co-operation on FI with Japan, feedback from the first participation of FIRE in the KOREN Future Internet Workshop (held on 25-26 May in Seoul, Korea), as well as announcements of the upcoming EU-Brazil Workshop organised by MyFIRE in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on 13 September and the PARADISO high-level conference on “Internet and Societies” in Brussels on 7-9 September.
The Newsletter provides overviews of papers from the FIRE Architecture Board on Resource Brokering Tools and Measurement & Benchmarking.
4th FIRE newsletter, 09 May 2011
The 4th Newsletter contains a preview of FIRE’s involvement in the FIA-Budapest week (16 - 20 May), especially the FIRE Research Workshop on 16 May, which gives some of the STREP projects from Call 5 the first opportunity to present their activities in this context. You'll find information about the upcoming Future Network and Mobile Summit in Warsaw on 15 - 17 June and the FIA-Poznan event on 24 - 28 October. Feedback from the first Canada-EU Future Internet Workshop and from recent collaborations with Asia.
Mr. Manuel Monteiro, Deputy Head of the FIRE Unit, reminds us all that the public consultation for Research and Innovation funding in FP8 is still open until 20 May. Details of how to contribute your ideas to the EC’s Green Paper are given in item:
“Help to shape FP8”.
The scope of - and new deadline for - the 1st Open Call from TEFIS is mentioned and some initial statistics are given from the recent Open Calls of BonFIRE and OFELIA.
3rd FIRE newsletter, 16 March 2011
The 3rd Newsletter opens with an introduction from the new Deputy Head of Unit, Manuel Monteiro, and then summarises the past and future events of relevance for our community.
Reports from past events include the FIRE activities in the Future Internet Conference Week (13-17 December) in Ghent, the FIRE Architecture Board meeting on 8 February and the Open Calls "Information day" on 9 February.
Announcements of future events include an invitation to shape the future FIRE activities in FP8, opportunities to explore collaboration with Canada and China, the FIA-Budapest Conference Week, the Future Network & Mobile Summit, news items from OFELIA, PARADISO and N4C, and an invitation to contribute to the FIA "Roadmap for Research (2014 - 2020)".

The 2nd issue of the FIRE Newsletter focuses on the FIA Ghent. Following the slogan "The FIRE facility is real - Let's use it", collect more information about the upcoming open Calls and how to get involved with the FIRE community at the FIRE Information Kiosk in Ghent. 1st FIRE newsletter, 27 September 2010
This 1st Newsletter outlines the concept of the FIRE Initiative and introduces the new projects. In particular, since a new feature of the Call 5 IP projects is that they will issue themselves “open calls for users”, an early insight is provided into the types of user project proposals that might satisfy the requirements for this specific funding.
Regular slots in the Newsletter are provided to list the main relevant upcoming events over the next 6 months and for FIRE projects to announce items they wish to publicise to the whole FIRE community and beyond.
