Report on EU-Japan Info Day – 20 October 2011 – Tokyo, Japan

The European Commission organized, on October 20, 2011, an Information Day for Japanese researchers on the ICT Call 8. This event was hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to Japan in Tokyo and targeted research actors involved in research ICT projects both from academia and industry.
For the Info Day the MIC (Ministry of International Affairs and Communications of Japan) informed that the most important topics in FP7 Call 8 were the following:

  • Network Platform (heterogeneous networked, service and computing environments; trustworthy architectures and protocols);
  • Networked Infrastructure (core photonic technologies, optical data communications);
  • Wireless Network (wireless and mobile broadband systems, integration of radio technologies with optical fiber networks;
  • Security (trust, identity and privacy management systems).

The topics the MIC is interested in are medium term research, and research with an industrial dimension.

Type of participation

FIRE STATION attended this event in order to be represented to the Japanese audience invited by the MIC. The level of the participants was fairly high and lots of interest has been demonstrated by the attendees. The attendees invited by MIC were primarily of industrial nature. Universities were also there (Keio, Tsukuba, Tokyo) but with a more selective approach.

Reason for participating/Objective of participation

Gather information on projects in Japan; promote FIRE visibility in Japan and see what future joint actions could be set up for the next FP7 ICT call 8.
All the presentations of the Info Day are available atundefined http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/foi/events/eu-japanfp8/index_en.htm.
