19th Newsletter

In this 19th FIRE Newsletter you will find a lot of interesting information about ongoing developments and upcoming events in FIRE, together with summaries of the main past events.

Open Access (now offered by CREW, Fed4FIRE and OneLab), is becoming an important mechanism to bring FIRE testbeds into extended use. In this way, the FIRE experimental facilities and services from several FIRE projects are available to other initiatives such as IoT, FI-PPP, 5G PPP, EIT ICT Labs and Smart Cities.

In terms of upcoming events, the one of imminent importance is the Net Futures 2015 on 25th – 26th March in Brussels next week. The FIRE Community Workshop and the 2nd CI-FIRE Industry Workshop on 24th March will “open” the FIRE activities next week as a “pre-workshop” for the Net Futures 2015. FIRE will be active and visible at the Net Futures 2015. Starting with the Experimental Platforms Concertation meeting (invitation only) in the morning of 25th March, at the exhibition on both days seven FIRE demo booths will show their latest innovative FIRE results. There also will be FIRE speakers at the Net Futures 2015 Perfect Pitch Panel on Wednesday.

Several other future events (e.g. IoT Week 2015, EuCNC’2015 and ICT2015) will take place in the coming summer and autumn, and there are important key dates to remember to submit workshop, session or exhibition proposals in time – the first ones already by the end of this week!

The past events section in this Newsletter includes summary reports of the held EU-China SDN interoperability eventand the Future Internet Opportunities for Innovative European Businesses workshop.

The recently published FIRE brochure 2015 includes FIRE success stories and information how to access FIRE facilities, together with the FIRE project descriptions. The electronic version is available on the FIRE web and you can pick up your own paper copy on next week at the Net Futures 2015.

At the end of the Newsletter you can find links to other Newsletters from FIRE projects, together with other related news.

This Newsletter provides information about the increasing expansion of the Open Access instrument, (now offered by BonFIRE, OFELIA and CREW), whereby FIRE facilities are offered free of charge, often on a best-effort basis, but still with some support provided. Information concerning the take-up of these offers by – and feedback from – experimenters will be important contributions to the future FIRE Roadmap.

The Newsletter then informs about the Open Call from Fed4FIRE and other Open Calls that are planned for later in 2014.

The availability is announced of the latest FIRE brochure (https://ict-fire.eu/pr-material/) and of the net-Xperiment magazine (http://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/en/our-media-library), which contains a selection of articles on FIRE facility projects, experimentation projects, pilot and demonstration projects and FIRE related international projects as concrete examples of a successfully undertaken experimentations in FIRE.

In terms of upcoming events, the one of imminent importance is FIA-Athens, including the Pre-FIA workshops. The ones relevant for FIRE have been selected and listed in Section 5. Section 6 provides links to other upcoming events.

At the end of the Newsletter you can find announcements from some projects in the FIRE+ community and related areas. These include a new way, through regular open polls, to collect ideas on FIRE’s future vision.

Finally, a reminder that the FIRE (ICT-11) Call 1 deadline is approaching. We are already looking forward to a new batch of projects to take FIRE forward into the H2020 Programme.
