FIRE_Brochure2016_coverThe FIRE Brochure 2016 presents an overview of the current FIRE landscape by providing a high level description of all ongoing FIRE projects, which have been grouped into five main categories according to their technology focus:
– Federation
– Data Management
– Internet of Things
– Smart Cities
– Networking

Moreover, the current Coordination and Support Action projects are also described, highlighting its cross-programme role in helping ongoing FIRE projects and EC representatives to maximise the impact of the overall FIRE framework.

FIRE Portfolio 2015

FIRE has two related dimensions: on the one hand, promoting experimentally-driven long-term, visionary research on new paradigms and networking concepts and architectures for the future internet; and on the other hand, building a large-scale experimentation facility to support both medium- and long- term research on networks and services by gradually federating existing and new testbeds for emerging future internet technologies.

FIRE Brochure 2015

The FIRE Brochure 2015 gives an insight into what is real and usable today in FIRE including FIRE success stories and information how to get access to FIRE facilities together with the FIRE project descriptions.

FIRE Catalogue – Support in product development verification and testing

Availability of development and testing infrastructures for advanced technologies, applications and services is crucial to allow validation of innovative ICT products and solutions and reduce their time to market. In the context of the FIRE, several testing infrastructures have been developed and made available to the European business and academic communities. The EC FUSION project has put together a FIRE Catalogue describing the available FIRE verification and testing environments, including their core features and key benefits. These infrastructures have a broad technological span going from cloud-based testbeds, to wireless and networking equipment and multimedia environments. Download the FIRE Catalogue.


FIRE Brochure 2014

The FIRE Facility projects are building a variety of network experimentation infrastructures and tools with different technologies and characteristics. Various structures, tools and features are already available and trials are being performed. All of the facilities evolve in a demand-driven way, supported through Open Calls — for regular new Open Calls from the FIRE Facility projects and also for details of the new mechanism called “Open Access”. Open Access offers experimenters the opportunity to use the experimental facilities for free and to obtain support be- yond the originally planned lifetime of the respective project. BonFIRE (Clouds), OFELIA (OpenFlow) and CREW (Cognitive Radio) are three examples of FIRE facilities now offering Open Access; other individual testbeds con- tinue to operate by federating with running FIRE Facility projects, thereby fostering a long-living FIRE!

The net-Xperiment future magazine

The European Commission’s CONNECT Directorate has published the net-Xperiment future magazine. A selection of the FIRE facility projects, experimentation projects, pilot and demonstration projects, and FIRE related international projects are presented there. You can find several examples of the experimentation that has been successfully undertaken in FIRE. Also the future challenges and aspirations, the FIRE vision for 2020 and beyond, are included.

FIRE Brochure 2013 – The FIRE facility is open: LET’s use it!

The FIRE Facility projects are building a variety of network experimentation infrastructures and tools with different characteristics. Various structures, tools and features are already available, first sets of open trials called upon and running; all facilities are subject to development in a demand-driven way. While Open Calls have come to stay -stay tuned for each facility provider launching regularly new Open Calls – the most recent FIRE actions are targeted at providing sustainable host and support for the already built and constantly evolving FIRE Facility. This means that “FIRE QoS” is materialising: services and tools remain available beyond the lifetime of the respective project. BonFIRE, Ofelia, SmartSantander and TEFIS have by far committed to continue offering their platform; others still running are working on federation that can foster a long-living FIRE!

This publication gives an insight into what is real and usable today in FIRE. FIRE Facility projects funded by the European Commission under FP7 ICT Objective 1.6, are presented here, with a focus on examples of experimentation. The FIRE outcome is open and public for all experimenters who find the facilities offered suited to their R&D needs.
